"Religion that pleases God the Father must be pure and spotless. You must help needy orphans and widows and not let this world make you evil." (James 1:27, CEV)
In a nation like Liberia where majority of people have no idea where to get each day's meal, the life of a widow is even worse and marked by daily challenges. Widows and their children go to bed hungry daily. Their children have no chance of being educated. They live in poverty and, in fact, their suffering and struggles are what define them.
Convicted by James 1:27, Serve Africa empowers widows to help them recover and live a full life again.
Among programs and services provided are small grant for table markets, scholarships, shelter (houses).
THE STORY OF MOTHER PATRICIA
Mother Patricia lost her husband in a motorcycle accident five years ago. Life has had it's toll on her and her kids since then.
Serve Africa helps Mother Patricia through provision of small grant for her table market and scholarships for her kids.
Currently, she struggles to provide leadership for a church that her husband planted shortly before he passed away. She and her congregation worship in a makeshift building, which she and her kids also use for shelter.
Mother Patricia loves God and feels deeply attached to her church, probably because of her husband's role as the visionary. She sees her life in the church. She cannot let the congregation disperse.
Mother Patricia needs help with constructing a building where she and her kids can stay, and a place where her congregation can continue to worship. The good thing is that she has the property (land) available.
